Every felt like you’ve backslided? Most christians have this idea that backsliding means you’re not a christian anymore, you decided to follow another road. It’s really not that simple, in fact, it’s not simple at all.
If ever you wanted to be part of an adventure, you should become a christian. It’s one of the most adventurous things you could ever do. It’s like tackling a journey up the mountain to the promised land, with no map or sense of direction you march forth. Along the way you realise you have to die to be able to truly live. So you die to self – and Christ starts living in you – for the first time you don’t feel alone and this adventurous journey feels worth while. As the time passes you receive powers and special weapons to floor your enemy and just as you become comfortable with your pace, the road becomes rocky and there’s dragons and witches behind every nook and cranny. The attacks become worse, there’s trials and tribulations. You fight off the enemy but are left with a few bruises along the way. And then? Then you consider turning around, because the road is not all sunshine and butterflies. The attacks increase and your faith decreases. (Adventurous I tell you).
We backslide. Some return to their old habits of sin, and others just stagnate, they become complacent. You don’t pray as often, you don’t read your Bible and you have no conviction to spend time with Jesus. (Either because of disappointments, offence or sin)
Yip, we’ve all been there, and if you haven’t, WELL DONE TO YOU!
That’s exactly where the enemy wants you. He comes with countless lies about how you can’t start praying now because God’s not really interested in you. He brings condemnation and you start believing the lies. No more praying, no more going to church, and definitely no more reading your Bible. You feel so off course that you give up the journey completely.
First things first, there is no condemnation for those who believe in Christ Jesus. The Passion Translations explains it beautifully. “So now the case is closed. There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One”. Rom 8:1 TPT. This means condemnation comes from the enemy. He is the one making you feel guilty, ashamed, and cut-off.
Hear me when I say, there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God.
“There is no power above us or beneath us – no power that could ever be found in the universe that can distance us from God’s passionate love.” Rom 8:39 TPT
So let’s get back on the road towards the promised land, let’s take up this adventure with faith, boldness and fearlessness. Knowing that if we fail, God will be right there to pick us back up. Deal with the things that are keeping you from pursuing a meaningful relationship with God.
Pray with me:
Jesus I come to you in the name of the Father, I ask you to forgive me for allowing sin to come between us. Help me father to deal with the conditions of my heart. Father I will no longer believe the lies of the enemy and I am forever grateful for your unconditional love. Please, lord over my life, as I surrender a new to you today. I want relationship with you, I want to hear our voice, and welcome your Holy Spirit.
Thank you for your Word Father, strengthen me to be able to walk the walk and talk the talk. I pray this in Jesus mighty Name.
